I look at a lot of wedding photographs as you can imagine. And every wedding is different. Every wedding has its own mood, its own atmosphere, its own 'personality'.

Of course, a lot depends on where you get married. A city wedding that takes place late morning is going to have quite a different feel from a rural wedding with a reception taking place in a barn complete with hay bales and bunting. What's important is that you have the wedding you want, in a style that suits you and your bridegroom.

A Wedding As Individual As You Both Are

One of the ways in which you can make your big day completely personal to you is by thinking hard about the colour scheme you choose (which is why I have written several blogs on using colours effectively). You may want to go the traditional route and have everything in shades of white and cream. Or you may even decide to wear a coloured wedding dress - perhaps put your bridesmaids in whites and creams instead.

Dove Grey ... Lilac

I'm always looking out for effective ways in which brides at real weddings have used colours. At today's featured wedding I love the way the bride has used shades of purple and grey to theme her day. Purple is a vibrant colour, but this lilac shade combined with a dove grey works beautifully. You can visit the full wedding on Style Me Pretty but for now I've picked out some relevant images that should inspire you.

Why You Should Have A Wedding Moodboard

This also might be a good time to start your own wedding moodboard if you haven't already. It's a great way to collect your ideas together all in one place and play around with your thoughts - particularly colour schemes. Dessy has a free wedding moodboard tool you can use and you can browse other peoples' wedding boards for inspiration.

Anyway, to our countrystyle wedding themed in purple and grey.

It's the little touches that make all the difference and the purple sash on the bride's wedding dress adds the perfect colour accent.

Bridesmaids dressed in purple and grey wedding theme

Oh-so-elegant bridesmaids in their beautifully draped dresses with purple-hued blooms to continue the theme. Dessy has some similar bridesmaids frocks if you like the effect ...

Table decoration with roses

These simple flower arrangements on the table would be fairly simple to DIY. Create a hand-tied bouquet and find some interesting containers in charity shops and at jumble sales ... they don't all need to match remember.

The bridesmaids bouquets set off their dresses to perfection ... with a splash of bright green to enliven the whole effect. Beautiful flowers and you'll find plenty of blooms in purple shades. Remember too, your bridesmaids dresses can be the same colour - but don't have to be the same style. Let your maids pick a style to suit them and just keep the colour consistent.
