Colours For A Garden Wedding Inspired by Downton Abbey

Have you been watching Downton Abbey?

I am hooked I have to say. And I particularly love the clothes everyone wears. The men all look so smart and well dressed and the women have the most beautiful frocks.

The last episode I saw featured an afternoon garden party and I was struck by the colours of the dresses worn by Lady Mary and her sister Lady Edith. Beautiful pastel shades perfect for a summer afternoon, light, feminine and delicate.

It got me thinking that Downton Abbey inspired colours would be the perfect inspiration for a garden wedding reception.

Of course, you'd have a marquee - decorated with bunting in matching shades - and huge planters of old-fashioned but classic blooms like hydrangeas, roses, peonies placed outside - along with lavenders to create a wonderful scent.

Inside you'd keep everything simple in white and creams - with white floral decorations, napkins and favours. Although you could introduce some gentle pastel hues if you wanted.

It's really all about the colour palette

And when you're looking for particular colours for your bridesmaids dresses then Dessy is really your first stop as their dresses are offered in literally hundreds of different hues. Including, as you can see, some shades inspired by Downton Abbey afternoon tea gowns.

You can also find retro looking shoes, like those shown above from Rachel Simpson. Not sure about putting your bridesmaids in hats but then you could always ask them. You never know.

Like the idea? If you're thinking about these gentle colours then you've the perfect excuse to catch up on your Downton viewing, maybe treating yourself to a box set so you can really get the look right.

To help you along, visit Dessy Styleboards where you'll find this Downton inspired wedding theme and maybe make your own. You can match up your own colours with Pantone shades so you get them exactly right - maybe buy some Pantone Chiplettes to help you with the organisation.

Enjoy!
